Helping Pupils at Independent Schools in 2012
So many Children are now defined as having certain ‘learning difficulties’ and seem to struggle academically to fulfil the potential their Parent’s know they have.
They realise that their Children need a learning environment that is specialised and therefore may select an Independent School.
Even with smaller classes and specialised learning support and IEP’s, some Pupils still find the School environment too challenging.
Some Children are just often labelled as difficult and poorly behaved and they are maybe more disruptive than their peer group – possibly they just get bored quickly and need to be stimulated by a slightly different style of teaching.?
Many Parents become confused, frustrated and disillusioned with the School as some teachers appear to build a rapport with their Child and get great results in even the most difficult subjects, whilst others struggle and seem to focus on blaming poor and disruptive behaviour for their Student’s low grades,
This culminates in the end of term report making sad and disappointing reading and damages the morale of the household.
Simon spends time discussing mechanisms for helping the Parent’s to ensure that revision and prep are completed on time.
He has also represented Parents and pupils (day pupils & boarders) at some of the leading Schools in the Country. He has been asked to explain to the teaching staff how they can maybe change a ‘disruptive and apparently lazy low achiever’ into someone who moves closer to fulfilling their potential by making some simple and fundamental practical changes to their own teaching approach in the classroom.
