What is anxiety?
Anxiety is that feeling that grips from the inside when we least expect it and is often linked with the anticipation of an event which is sometimes referred to as the ‘what if factor’.
When people feel anxious they can experience a whole series of anxiety symptoms such as their heart beating faster, dizziness, perspiration and blurred vision.
These ‘abreactions’ can be so powerful they can cause the sufferer to lose the ability to function properly and effectively.
The symptoms of anxiety can feel so real that they can effect personal performance, home and work life, sexual relationships and may lead to sleep deprivation, loss of appetite and other associated health conditions.
Some people experience the ‘anxiety of anxiety’ as they are so used to operating at a high level of ‘anxiousness’ and believe that they are at their best when functioning on the edge. This is only practiced behaviour and of course is not the recipe for peak performance.
If you are experiencing the symptoms of anxiety, please first discuss your condition and symptoms with your GP.
