We all grow up differently and are exposed to different lifestyles and influences, so we obviously deal with these different tasks, experiences and emotions in our home, work and social lives in different ways.
We practice them based on our personal experiences and interpretations of our upbringing, so we become so safe and ‘comfortable’ with them that they become our ‘default mechanism’ and a ‘second nature’…instinct.
These anxiety free ‘comfortable slippers’ actually serve a purpose for a while as they enable us to grow in confidence in certain areas of our development and as we practice, we enjoy the confidence this ‘comfort’ brings.
We can then naturally feel safe if we are required to socialise, interact and function in everyday situations as we are operating within our ‘comfort zone’ and this ‘practice makes perfect’ approach generally stands us in good stead as we grow up.
However, some people want to expand their horizons and not live in the restrictive world of complying to the emotional boundaries of ‘inertia’.
